ARAD’s treatment program provides options, including Rational Recovery, to those looking for alternatives to AA in a residential treatment center. Rational Recovery is a non-12 step recovery program designed to help those in recovery abstain from unwanted substances. The Rational Recovery method includes making a commitment to permanent abstinence from unwanted substances and then developing mental tools to make abstaining easier. Those in recovery are encouraged to find the rational basis for quitting and then recognize the “addictive voice” that pushes them to continue using. Learning to recognize the addictive voice is called Addictive Voice Recognition Technique (AVRT) and can help those in recovery separate those impulses from healthy, life-affirming ones.
Every client who comes in our doors receives a personalized treatment plan tailored to their preferences and needs. For clients who would prefer to attend an alternative to the traditional 12-step programs, we’re proud to offer Rational Recovery classes to encourage the development of mental tools that promote self-control and mastery over addiction. In addition to Rational Recovery, clients have time to participate in a range of social and recreational activities, from animal-assisted therapy to yoga, as well as learn other relapse prevention techniques and make plans for after completing treatment.
